Judge Education and Certification Committee

Mission Statement:

The Judge Education and Certification Committee nurtures and supports the professional development of new and experienced judges, and oversees all aspects of the adjudication process for MMTA programs.

Procedure for Becoming a Judge for MMTA Programs

  1. The candidate submits an application to become an MMTA judge.
  2. The candidate then attends a JECC educational seminar on the MMTA philosophy of judging and particulars of MMTA programs.
  3. The candidate will have critiques evaluated by a JECC panel in a timely fashion.
  4. Upon the completion of these three steps, the JECC will grant approval for certification. Certified judges will then attend JECC educational seminars at two-year intervals for continuing professional development.
  5. As a benefit of certification and to encourage continuing professional development, the JECC will read critiques and provide written feedback to all judges at no more than five year intervals.

Procedure for Teachers to Provide Feedback Regarding Adjudication

From time to time, teachers and students may wish to provide feedback to the JECC regarding a judging issue or a particular judge. The JECC welcomes both positive feedback and grievances.

Please provide, in writing:

  • A copy of the critique in question
  • A statement giving an account of the particular experience or issue you wish the committee to address.

Send both documents to the Chair: Dr. Marianne Bryan, NCTM, 1230 Stanford Ave., St. Paul, MN 55105
