MusicLink provides music lessons, music books, and instruments to students who couldn't otherwise afford them.  MMTA partners with MusicLink to offer students additional opportunities and resources.

MusicLink Opportunities

The MusicLink program offers music teachers an opportunity to bring musical instruction to low income children.  Students have an opportunity to perform in the annual Playathon which raises money for the work of the MusicLink Foundation.

MMTA partners with MusicLink to provide the following:

  • 50% discount on workbooks for MMTA programs which will be used by students.
  • 10% discount on the Piano Exam Package for current MusicLink teachers.
  • Free registration for all MMTA programs.
  • 2 free Honors Concert tickets for performer's family

Playathon

All Levels

The MusicLink Playathon is a chance for kids to help other kids!  Students who participate in the Playathon collect pledges from family, friends, and neighbors.  Money earned from pledges is donated to the MusicLink Foundation.  The Foundation then uses the money to work with teachers across the country to provide music lessons for students who could not otherwise afford them.

The two-day Playathon is held at the Mall of America in Bloomington, MN.  Students of all ages and ability levels are encouraged to participate!  There are no repertoire requirements.  Students may perform a solo, duet, trio, or as part of an ensemble.  A piano will be provided, as will music stands and microphones for vocalists and instrumentalists.

The Playathon also has a special segment for Popular Styles!

Ruth Stenson Award

The Minnesota MusicLink program will be offering a $1,000 scholarship award to a graduating MusicLink student this Spring in memory of Ruth Stenson, a long-time MusicLink teacher who passed away recently.  Ruth embodied the spirit of the MusicLink teacher, reaching out to many children in her area to give them the chance to have lessons.  She is sadly missed, but will live on in this award that will honor her memory and continue to help students realize their musical dreams.

Summer Music Camp Scholarship

The MusicLink Foundation is pleased to offer finiancial assistance to MusicLink students who seek an experience at a summer music program or music camp of their choice.
