Senior & College Young Artist Repertoire List
2006 through 2010

Requirements:
  • Senior Young Artist: A solo program of 15 minutes minimum performance time, representing at least two different style periods. Students must be in 9th through 12th grade. Students in 9th grade have the option of competing as a Junior Young Artist or a Senior Young Artist.
  • College Young Artist: A solo program of 30 minutes minimum performance time, representing at least three different style periods.
  • Level III Theory or higher of the Minnesota Music Teachers Association Theory Exam or have completed or be enrolled in a college theory course, for both Senior & College. Theory requirement must be achieved by the last January testing date. Exams from other states or organizations do not fulfill this requirement.
Repertoire:
  • Choose repertoire demonstrating the student’s musical ability, versatility,
    and technical facility.
  • Repertoire must be learned in its entirety. Students may select single movements of multi-movement works, unless indicated otherwise below.
Substitutions:
  • Request for repertoire substitution must be made in writing.
  • Refer to the CURRENT Calendar for the specific deadline date.
  • Only one substitution per student is allowed.
  • Any Senior B contest piece from this year or any of the previous 5 years may be used at the Senior Young Artist level without requesting prior approval; this will not be considered a substitution.
  • Repertoire from the Junior Young Artist list will not be approved.
  • The approval must be attached to the registration form.
